Google Email Consent Form for 7-8th grade KSAT Technology
Dear Parents,
We are excited about the opportunity for your child to use Google Sites in the classroom. To use Google Sites, we must have your permission to create a Google email account for login purposes. Please note that The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA) requires that all children under the age of 13 have parental consent in order to create an email account. NEISD has created accounts for students, but these accounts can only send and receive email from other NEISD emails and cannot utilize Google Sites and all features of Google Applications. Many other online programs like codecademy.com and MIT App Inventor send emails to students if they forget their password, and would benefit from the students having a gmail account that can receive emails from outside of NEISD’s network.
Once an email account is created, your child will have many applications available. These tools can also be used for online collaboration when creating group projects. Students will be able to place data online, but it will only be viewable to those they invite to view it, such as a teacher or classmate in their group. Student data may include the name of the student, film presentations, audio productions, photographs, work, and likeness. All student work can be stored in one place as a portfolio. This form does not authorize student data to be made public, and students will be shown in class how to manage the privacy settings for each assignment so their work is protected by a password.
With your permission, we will be creating an account for your child to use. Your student will not be allowed to use Google Sites at school until we have received your signed consent form. Please know that if you choose to decline this opportunity for your student, appropriate alternative assignments will be provided for him/her. In addition, the use of email at school is a privilege that is intended for instructional use. Any use of Google Sites deemed inappropriate by the NEISD AUP policy will result in appropriate disciplinary action by the teacher and notification to you.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you,
Veronica Webster
